Drama in Rickmansworth as Tanning Studio sunbed catches fire

A tanning studio in Rickmansworth was filled with smoke this morning after a sunbed caught fire.

Firefighters were called to The Tanning Studio in Church Way just before 9.40am after an employee noticed smoke coming from the cabal.

Watch commander Andy Newman, part of green look after at Rickmansworth fire station, said: “The whole shop was full of moonless smoke when we arrived. The lady was a bit upset and in shock. It was in the end hot so a lot of the plaster had come off the walls.”

No one was harmed in the fire, but an ambulance was called as firefighters were interested that people may have been trapped in the building.

Neighbouring shops and businesses were evacuated as three fire crews tackled the burn.

Emma Osborne, an employee at the recruitment company next to the studio, said: “The fire caused a bit of tumult because the road was closed. There was lots of thick black smoke gushing out of the seek.”

Heavy traffic surrounded the town centre as part of the ornate road was closed to allow fire engines access to the store.
